Individual Therapy

Could a Different Approach to Therapy Help?

Are you experiencing symptoms that you just can't seem to shake despite all of the books you've read, podcasts you've listened to, and past therapy you've done?  Things like exhaustion, anxiety, agitation, depressed mood, numbness, dissociation, physical arousal, sleep disturbance, flashbacks, avoidance of emotions, and more?  These symptoms are a result of your nervous system's best attempts to manage.

The approach that I take in individual therapy is attachment-focused and client centered and assumes that you have what you need inside of you to feel ease and reach a place of balance and peace.  It is non-pathologizing, trauma informed, and curious.  I am simply your guide in the process.

Attachment is a deep emotional bond that connects one person to another.  As human beings, we are wired to have these kind of relationships- from the cradle to the grave.  These attachment relationships help shape our world view.  When we experience relationship trauma or ruptures without repair, our world view and our view of self can become damaged.  Our most inner beliefs may be “I can’t trust anyone” or “I am unlovable” etc.

Our brain and nervous system work really hard for us each and every day. When events or experiences become too overwhelming, the brain may adapt by fragmenting the thoughts, feelings, or sensations associated with the stressor.  As a result, and over time we may feel stuck, our nervous system, exhibiting some of the symptoms noted above.  EMDR  and  Somatic  Experiencing  are  forms  of  therapy that help your brain and nervous system go back to reprocess these stressors and events in  ways  that  are  very  different  from  traditional  talk  therapy.   You’re left feeling unburdened and with a compassionate understanding of what you went through.

I have seen great success using the approaches, principles, and techniques of EMDR  and  Somatic  Experiencing.  I encourage you to check out some of my posts on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok for more insight into how I integrate these modalities into my practice.
